Tommy Boy
Tommy Boy is a 1995 comedy that was directed by Peter Segal. Fred Wolf, Bonnie and Terry Turner wrote the script that stars Saturday Night Live alumnus Chris Farley and David Spade.
Chris Farley plays Tommy, a man who is socially and emotionally awkward. When his family business starts to go under, Tommy gets help from Richard, played by David Spade. Richard is a great number cruncher and together, they try to save the business. Through many trials, Tommy learns about trust, friendship and self worth after the sudden death of his father.
The cast also includes Rob Lowe, Bo Derek, Dan Aykroyd and Brian Dennehy. Tommy boy opened up at number 1 but fell out of the top 20 in seven weeks. It received mixed reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, which gave it a 44% and the Chicago Sun Times critic, Roger Ebert said there was “No one funny in Tommy Boy”. The Los Angeles Times and the Arizona Daily Star gave it positive reviews.
